Budget AI Phones in 2026: Pixel 10a and Galaxy A57 Compared

An “AI phone” still has to be a good phone. Before paying for a chatbot shortcut or a photo trick, check the camera, battery, reception, repair options and years of software support. Those are the things you will notice every day.

For a U.S. buyer comparing midrange Android phones, Google’s Pixel 10a and Samsung’s Galaxy A57 are useful starting points. This is a source-based comparison of announced features and support commitments, checked October 8, 2026. We have not conducted camera, battery or performance tests on these devices.

Two phones to compare, with clearly dated prices

Pixel 10a: investigate it for a smaller phone and photo help

The Pixel’s feature list makes it worth considering if guided photography and a smaller screen suit you. That is an inference from its specifications, not a claim that it takes better photos than the Samsung.

Try the functions on the kind of picture you actually struggle with: a moving child, a group indoors or a backlit face. Ask whether an edit improves a real problem or merely changes the picture. Check the unedited image too; you may prefer the original.

Google lists age, language, connectivity and availability conditions for some AI features. Do not assume every demonstration works offline or for every account. Seven years of support is measured from the device’s first availability, so buying an older unit later does not restart that clock.

Galaxy A57: investigate it for screen size and recording workflows

The larger display may be the more useful difference if you read documents, watch videos or edit on your phone. Samsung’s transcription and editing features are worth checking if they match a regular task. Their presence does not establish transcription accuracy in your language or a noisy room.

Before paying more, try a short recording with names and numbers you can verify. Check whether the transcript is editable, whether it can be exported and whether the workflow needs an online account. Treat a generated summary as a draft until the details match the recording.

Why the $379 Nothing offer is no longer a current recommendation

The earlier version of this guide included Nothing’s Phone (3a) at $379 through its U.S. beta program. Nothing’s program page now says the beta program has ended. That historical offer should not be presented as a current purchase option.

If you find an imported or resale unit, verify the exact model’s carrier support, warranty and return arrangements. A low price is not a saving if reception or service support fails where you live.

When an older phone is the better purchase

A discounted Pixel 9a or another supported midrange phone may make more sense than a new model. Compare the final checkout price, storage, condition and remaining update period. Do not assume an older model is discounted simply because its successor exists.

Keeping your current phone may be the cheapest way to use AI. First check whether the assistant or editing app you need already runs on it. A feature that requires new hardware should solve a problem you have, rather than create a reason to replace a working device.

A five-minute check before checkout

1. Choose the exact configuration. Compare the same storage capacity and unlocked or carrier terms.
2. Check the local feature list. Confirm country, language, age, account and subscription requirements for the feature you want.
3. Separate device cost from service cost. A promotional AI subscription may expire before the phone wears out.
4. Read the return terms. Leave yourself a way to test reception, comfort and battery life in normal use.
5. Verify support dates. Count the years remaining from launch, not years promised from your purchase.
